...at Heartwood Forest, Sandridge, St Albans, Herts. (see Heartwood Forest Blog)
To book a session call 0777 1807 068 or email email@example.com
It was £8 per one hour session, but now £25 for 4 weeks (continuous block) with Robin Oakley, expert Nordic Walking UK qualified leader (fully insured and first aid trained!)
Meet at the Heartwood Forest car park, it's well signposted on the left as you leave Sandridge on the B651 going towards Wheathampstead.
(Just past Tara's Retreat care home, postcode AL4 9DQ).
A fun, no sweat, session for all ages and levels. With all the safety and sociability of a group.
Poles are supplied, walking shoes are best but a walking boot is fine. Trainers are OK too, just no open toed shoes (or high heels)! It can get muddy (when wet) so overtrousers are good if you have to dash back to a smart office. On top, a shirt, fleece and thin windcheater (raincoat) should suffice, but dress for the weather. Some walkers bring water but it's not essential.
It's a mixed ability group sometimes a mix of experience and beginners. However we work together and eager beavers loop back to maintain the group. You'll be shocked to know Robin is over 50, and at a guess the age range runs from 30's to 80's and is predominantly women,
Generally research indicates that regular exercise like this is good for you it will make you fitter and happier. A new report seems to indicate it's especially good for arthritis.

Nordic Walking Background
Nordic Walking is an enhancement of ordinary walking – it makes something we can all do…. twice as effective!
Nordic Walking uses poles to in order to add two major benefits to walking
The use of poles means the upper body muscles are used as well as the legs
The poles help to propel the walker along – this means he/she works harder than usual yet the support given by the poles makes it feel easier!
Nordic Walking is a specific fitness technique and is not to be confused with trekking, hill walking or trail running as the poles are not planted in front of the walker/runner but in a specific way that increases the use of the upper body. It can be done by anybody, anywhere and does not require expensive equipment or clothing.
Nordic Walking is the fastest growing fitness activity in the world and is used by individuals, personal trainers, health clubs, physiotherapists, doctors and health promoters because it is highly effective, affordable and FUN!
Nordic Walking technique MUST be learnt correctly if the participant is to get the most out of the activity – the full Health technique that ensures the whole body works efficiently is only taught by NWUK qualified Instructors.
